At the Interfaith Thanksgiving Service hosted by Temple Emunah on November 24th, Rev. Dana Allen Walsh, co-president of the Lexington Interfaith Clergy Association, announced the start of an interfaith garden in Lexington. The goal of the interfaith garden is to build healthy interfaith relationships while growing good food for our hungry neighbors. All the produce from the interfaith garden will be donated to those in need.
Dana spoke about how healthy food is much more expensive per calorie than processed junk food. It is possible to buy 1,200 calories of potato chips for $1 but that same dollar will only buy 250 calories of carrots. As a result, there is a real need and a strong demand from local food pantries for healthy produce.
An offering was taken at the Interfaith Thanksgiving service to support the interfaith garden and the Lexington Food pantry. We’d like to thank all those who gave so generously to support the garden.
Support for the interfaith garden has been growing rapidly, with support from 13 out of 26 faith communities in Lexington already. We’d love to have participation from all the faith communities in Lexington.
We have been given permission to use a fabulous location for the interfaith garden near the Battle Green and have started preparing the soil for planting in the spring.
